Security for Home Users is becoming increasingly important. The advent of Broadband
connections, Wireless Networks and more sophisticated Software Applications has
exposed the Home User to a range of Threats not encountered before. These threats
can be minimized with the correct equipment and operating procedures .
Ensuring that your Computer or Network is fully protected against today's threats
from viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, addware and hackers is vital. Waiting until
your e-mail stops working or you cannot access your data before taking action can
mean losing valuable data or/and family photos. We strongly recommend that you consider
some or all of the following options to secure your system: |
|
Anit-Virus Software |
We install top brand Anti-Virus software for the majority of systems. This should
provide the best all round protection and will automatically update itself with
the latest virus definitions.
|
|
Firewalls |
|
Firewalls provide a barrier between your computer and external networks i.e. the
Internet. You control exactly what sort of data is allowed to pass through the firewall.
For those with broadband connections, it is important to have a Firewall installed.
There are two types; Hardware Firewalls and Software Firewalls. Windows XP comes
with a Firewall installed and we recommend that you activate this. |
|
Software Patches |
|
Microsoft and Most other Software Vendors, regularly issue Software Patches that
you download and install. These are issued to fix vulnerabilities to various threats
in their software. Windows XP is currently running with Service Pack 2 SP which
can be downloaded from the link below. We can also install SP2 if required. |
|
Software Upgrades |
|
Though Software Patches cover many of the security weaknesses and vulnerabilities,
we would encourage all users to install the latest Software version available. Upgrading
to a later version can be cheaper than purchasing the latest version and will provide
you with the latest security features built in. |
|
Anti-Spyware |
|
With Data and Identity theft increasing dramatically, installing Software that will
protect your system against unwanted Spyware and Addware Programs has become a necessity.
We can advise you on the best protection against Spyware. |
|
Physical Security |
|
Most systems now have excellent security features and yet the majority of these
are rarely used. These range from Password protection to access your computer to
encryption of files. We can advise you on what sensible measures to take to protect
your system from prying eyes. |

Commonly, Hard Discs and Power Units - the only moving parts - may eventually need
replacing.

|
Component Upgrades |
|
As technology advances, it may well be more cost effective to upgrade components
rather than replace the whole system. You may require more disc space or a faster
processor or additional devices added. |
|
